Yesterday was a day full of cruising past national landmarks and landmark wannabes.
The bluegrass state is, of course, home to KFC. It was certainly difficult to miss the "Yum" center in Louisville looming over the interstate as we drove past.
Next, we entered Indiana briefly on our way to Missouri via Illinois.
Bridge connecting Louisville to Indiana:
Will's only comments on Illinois (which is also a beautiful state full of rolling hills and gorgeous farmland) are that it's 65 degrees in July and gas is 3.99/gallon.
Those facts aside, we enjoyed passing through the land of Lincoln.
St. Louis bridge:
We enjoyed a quick lunch in Columbia, MO which was not only harried but also a pain for which to wait as people were flocking to the food in droves.
Following the super congested state of Missouri, we hit up the prairie land that is Kansas. I was forewarned that Kansas would be ridiculously boring.
Boy, were they wrong!
Kidding.
Kansas is pretty freaking boring and we kept seeing mirages of civilization only to discover that we were just seeing really large herds of cattle grazing among seemingly deserted prairie barns (if there is such a thing. I don't know.).
We did, however, see some really amazing windmill farms in Kansas for which this picture doesn't do justice.
And, of course, the classic oil pumps (is that what they're called?):
Today, we're off to Denver!
We can't wait to share with you guys pics from the mile high city!
"Mirage of civilization..." HA! I love the way you write--it's exactly how I think! Hey, Jamie warned you how much Kansas sucked! I'm glad you found food and civilization to park for the night. Love you!
